SYNOD OF THE SOUTHWEST, Tucson
The first Presbyterian church in our synod was Santa Fe First organized in 1867. It was part of the Presbytery of Santa Fe which continued until 1889 when it became the Synod of Santa Fe with three presbyteries: Santa Fe , Rio Grande , and Arizona . In 1906, Arizona was divided in the two presbyteries of Phoenix and Southern Arizona . From 1912 until the end of 1972, New Mexico and Arizona were separate synods. Finally, in 1973, the Synod of the Southwest was born with its present four presbyteries of de Cristo, Grand Canyon , Santa Fe , and Sierra Blanca.
