SPAGHETTI DINNER hosted by
Boy Scout Troop 157
Saturday, May 4th, 5:00–7:30pm
Held in Witherspoon Hall
Sponsored by Immanuel Presbyterian. The scouts learn a lot from these public events, interfacing with new people and practicing their salesmanship. And the spaghetti is great! The boys and girls of Troop 157 are earning money for their summer camp. This summer they have chosen to go to Camp Fiesta Island in the San Diego area. The camp gives the youngsters the “water experience” they cannot get in Arizona. Please support our troop and have some good food also.

IMMANUEL BLOOD DRIVE

ONE WORSHIP SERVICE begins…
Sunday, May 26 at 10:00am
Beginning May 26, we will have one worship service on Sundays at 10:00am for the summer. The service will have elements of both alternative and traditional styles of worship. We will have fellowship hour afterwards with some cool summer treats! Looking forward to seeing you there. This would also be the perfect time to Sing with the Summer Choir! Just come at 9:15am, do a few practice warm ups and sing for joy! No commitments, all are welcome!

Field Trip to the African American Museum of Southern Arizona on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00am. During our fall Adult Christian Education class, “Holding Up Your Corner,” we discussed ways that members of our congregation can help foster diversity and inclusion at Immanuel and in our community. We are stepping out in faith with our first effort, a field trip to the African American Museum of Southern Arizona on the University of Arizona campus. We hope to learn more about African American history here in Tucson and Southern Arizona, and support the museum’s efforts to preserve and share this history.

On May 18, meet at the church at 9:15am to carpool or meet us at the museum before 10:00am. We will receive a guided tour (50 minutes) starting at 10:00am. Admission to the museum is free, but we would like to make a group donation to the museum. Please let us know if you want to contribute to the donation. Join us for an optional lunch following the tour at Janet and Ray’s to support a local black-owned restaurant and discuss our experience at the museum! (Lunch is pay-your-own-way.) For further details email kris@immanuelpc.org

Celebration of the Lord’s Day

Dear Immanuel,

This Sunday is Youth Sunday whereby we have the joy of our young leading us in worship and showing us how much God loves us. Communion will be served by intinction (coming forward to receive the elements) in both services. If you wish to remain in your seat, the elements will be brought to you.

Here is something for you to think about in preparation for communion: in Jesus’ time, when a Jewish man decided whom he wished to marry, his father would pour a cup of wine and pass it down to his son. The son would then turn to the young woman he loved, hold out the cup of wine to the woman and ask for her hand in marriage. He would say these words: “This cup is a new covenant in my blood, in which I offer to you.”  When the disciples heard Jesus speak those words on the night he was betrayed, they recognized the words of a marriage proposal. The Last Supper was a marriage covenant.  This Sunday, we partake in Communion that declares and reminds us of God’s dramatic love for us.

See you in church!

THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST

We at Immanuel proclaim and strive to live by the teachings of Jesus, the Scriptures, and the church that instructs us to love our neighbor who is created in God’s image, whether they be friend or foe, similar or distinct, or a different skin tone. God has given us and entrusted us with the ministry of reconciliation to transcend today’s heightened polarization in church and society. Brothers and sisters, let us continue to love one another with Christ’s love!

Grace and Peace,
Immanuel Presbyterian Church

OUR VISION

The path of worship – honoring God.

The path of discipleship – learning and apprenticing the faith.

The path of hospitality – building relationships and bridges.

The path of mercy – caring for the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of the faith community and community at large.

The path of mission – sharing the good news locally and globally in word and deed.

ABOUT OUR CHURCH FAMILY

People come to church for lots of different reasons. Some come for the preaching, some come for the music. Some seek quiet time for personal reflection, and others appreciate a community of friends who have become family. Many are fed by book and Bible studies, and some long to reach out and help others.

We invite you to come visit us on a Sunday morning soon. Get in touch with your spiritual side — worship with us and attend a Christian Education class or a study group. We think Immanuel has what you and your family are looking for, and we would love to welcome you!
